Gifford Medical Ctr. Will Offer

New Indoor Walking Program

Regular exercise is critical to good health, and Gifford Medical Center will help Randolph area residents get fit amid winter’s chill through a new indoor walking program.

"Your Steps to Health" is designed to help you start the new year off right. Facilitated by Gifford Community Health Coordinator Michelle Rylander, this indoor walking program will be held in the hospital Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-11 a.m.

The program begins on Jan. 10 and runs through March. Walking dates are Jan. 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26 and 31; Feb. 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23 and 28; and March 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30.

The program is being offered free of charge. Program participants will be provided pedometers, monthly health tips and signs guiding them through the hospital.

"Exercise is important for your overall health," Diabetes Coordinator and Nurse Educator Sherry Barnard notes. "Finding ways to exercise in the winter can be challenging. This is one way for people to continue to get their exercise without worrying about the obstacles of ice and snow and bad weather."

Bring a friend or come alone. Rylander will be available to help guide Your Steps to Health participants. Anyone interested in participating should meet in the hospital’s new visitor entrance on the southern end of the hospital at 10 a.m. or after. Walking will be ongoing until 11 a.m. Call 802-728-2379 for more information.
