With everyone's help, our Katrina Relief, Community Challenge Project successfully filled a 48-foot trailer. Two weeks ago when we looked into the long dark empty 48-foot space, we marveled at our audacity in thinking we could actually fill it. Miracles do happen though and in the end we had to scramble to make room for the last few boxes of food and presents. Last Wednesday morning, Chuck Bent from RSD Transportation in Lebanon hooked up the trailer and pulled away. Madelaine Daniel, Jan Dank, and her daughter met the truck in Pearlington, MS on Friday and helped unload. The furniture and large appliances found new homes that day. The 50 holiday food baskets and many presents were distributed at the holiday festival the next day. RSD provided the trailer and transport to us at cost, which was only one example of the incredible generosity and good will that we have received. Businesses, individuals, churches and schools from all over the Upper Valley helped make our vision a reality. The trailer was filled with a wide assortment of items that were on the wish list we received, including many large appliances, furniture, microwaves, clothing, books, toys and much more. Many, many thanks to all for accepting our challenge and showing these Katrina survivors that they haven't been forgotten. Mary Blanton Barnard Helping Hands Madelaine Daniel Lukana's Dream |
