Randolph Man Will Be Deputy
In Environmental Department

Environmental Conservation Commissioner Jeffrey Wennberg this week appointed Justin Johnson of Randolph as the new deputy commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Johnson has served as DEC's Communications Coordinator since 2004, a position he previously held in 2001. Prior to that he held a similar position at the Vermont Department of Agriculture.

"Justin has shown himself to be an excellent, leader, and someone who has gained the respect of people inside and outside the department for his ability to quickly understand issues and provide sound judgment and common sense to the department's decision making. I look forward to working closely with him," Commissioner Wennberg said.

As Deputy Commissioner, Johnson will be responsible for day-to-day direct support of DEC divisions and programs.

As well as serving in Vermont state government, Johnson has previously served as chief of staff to a Member of Parliament in his native Australia and as a senior manager at a local government in Australia.

He and his wife Gus Howe Johnson, whom he met when she was an exchange student to Australia, live on Greenhouse Avenue.
