Out of the two Vermont wrestling teams that attended the Bow Holiday Tournament in Bow, N.H., Randolph ended the day with five place finishers. Coming in fifth place out of 16 teams, Randolph was very proud of what they had accomplished. Two 1st Place Finishers Wes Simpson was seeded first going into the tournament, and he wrestled up to his name. In the first round Simpson moved ahead with a bye. In Quarters he wrestled Greg Jones from John Stark. Simpson pinned Jones in the first period with a time of 26 seconds. Now in the semis, W. Simpson wrestled Mark Sullivan from Londonderry and defeated him in the first period with a pin time of 44 seconds. Moving on to his finals match, W. Simpson went up against Kai Neo from St. Paul’s School. W. Simpson defeated Neo with a decision of 6-0. W. Simpson went the entire day with no points scored on him. Seth Dezan also received a first place finish. In the first round Dezan wrestled Shane Camaniti from St. Johnsbury. Dezan defeated him in the first period with a pin time of 1 minute, 3 seconds. In quarters he wrestled Matt Companion from Franklin and defeated him with a pin time of 1 minute, 35 seconds. S. Dezan’s next match was against Tim Varney from Winnacunnet. S. Dezan pinned him in the last period with a time of 4 minutes, 30 seconds. In finals S. Dezan wrestled Adam Lantiegne from John Stark, and defeated him with a pin time of 4 minutes, 30 seconds. 2nd Place Finisher Ben Adams received a second place finish at Bow. His first opponent of the day was Grant Wilson from St. Paul’s School. Adams defeated Wilson with a decision of 8-2. Moving on to wrestle Dale Carson of Alvirne, Adams defeated him in the first period with a pin time of 1 minute, 27 seconds. In semis Adams wrestled Corbin Kennedy from Londonderry and pinned him in the first period with a time of 40 seconds. In finals Adams went up against Eric Larcomb of White Mountain, but lost by a decision of 9-2. 3rd Place Finisher Matt Simpson picked up a third place finish this weekend. His first opponent was Andrew Galante from Newport. M. Simpson defeated him in the first period with a pin time of 34 seconds. In quarters M. Simpson wrestled Tomas Cohen from St. Johnsbury and pinned him in the last period with a time of 4 minutes, 11 seconds. In semis he went up against the number one seed, Joe Herrick from Salem but was defeated with a major decision. Moving on to consi semis, M. Simpson wrestled David Chase from Newfound and defeated him with a decision of 9-2. In consi-finals he wrestled Corey Oliverio from Londonderry and defeated him with a score of 6-3 to receive his third place finish. 4th Place Finisher David Maxfield finished the day with four wins and one loss. In the first round he wrestled Mike Anderson from Salem and defeated him in the first period with a pin time of 1 minute, 24 seconds. In quarters, Maxfield wrestled Pat Bishop from St. Johnsbury but was defeated in the second period. His next match was against Brian Correa from St. Paul’s School. Maxfield defeated him in the second period with a pin time of 2 minutes, 35 seconds. Next he wrestled Matt Boyd from Bow, and defeated him with a major decision of 9-1. Maxfield wrestled Alex Roy from Wiinnisquam and pinned him with a time of 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Due to the rule that you can only wrestle five times in one day, he was awarded fourth place, and was unable to wrestle in consi-finals. Other Matches Wrestling in the 160-pound weight class was Stephen Bent. Bent had a bye in the first round, and went on to wrestle Brandon Garneau from White Mountain, but was defeated by a major decision. In his next match, Bent wrestled Matt Varney from Winnacunnet, but was defeated with a score of 13-3. Tom Kirkpatrick also had a bye in the first round, but wrestled Nate Howard in quarters, and was defeated in the first period. His next match was against Tom Manley from Londonderry but was defeated in the first period. The wrestlers had a home meet Wednesday against Middlebury; their next match will be in Fair Haven on the 27th. ____________ |
