An occasional musical tradition in Randolph will be held again next Monday with a New Year's Day "Messiah Sing" that welcomes both singers and listeners to Bethany Church on Main Street at 3 p.m. for an informal sing-through of the beloved work. None of the musicians are charging for their participation, and participating in the Messiah Sing is free for both listeners and singers. A free-will donation will be taken for the Food Shelf, however. Singers, soloists and a small orchestra will be directed by Dick Drysdale. The music will include the "Christmas section" of Handel's masterpiece as well as a few other favorites. The event will last about an hour an a quarter. "It's a great way to sing in the new year," the director said. Piano accompaniment will be provided again by the indispensable Randolph music and piano teacher Marta Borgstrom, assisted by a group of flutes, strings, and trumpets. Soloists will be drawn from throughout the community and outside—this year including Randolph-connected singers from Buffalo, N.Y. and St. Albans. All area singers are invited to come and sing along. Please bring your own music score if you have one; there will be some to lend for those who don't. Listeners are cordially invited, as well. |
