Jean E. Andrews

SOUTH BURLINGTON—Jean Andrews, 80, died December 25, 2006, following a long illness, at the Arbors in Shelburne, surrounded by family and caregivers.

Jean was born August 22, 1926, in Providence, R.I., to Christina (Hall) and Thomas Taylor.

She received her professional training at the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1946. She worked as a prenatal nurse in Rhode Island before enjoying a career as a school nurse in Connecticut and Florida.

She married Normand D. Andrews on November 29, 1947, in Smithfield, R.I. They lived in Michigan, Connecticut, Florida, and for 20 years the village of Chatham on Cape Cod.

Holiday traditions were important to Jean. Being with family, especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas, was a high point for her. Weather and distance were inconveniences but never barriers at holiday time.

Jean was an active member of the Methodist Community, faithfully serving her church wherever she and Normand lived. Lifelong friendships trace their origins to her church life.

Jean is survived by her husband, Normand, and their three daughters: Meredith Bloking of Vernon, Conn., and her children Jason and Christina; Holly Brooks of South Burlington, her husband Steve and their daughter Mary; and Susan Clark of Tunbridge, her husband Peter and their sons, Scott and Tom. Her grandchildren were Jean’s joy and her beacon to the world. Jean was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Ruth.

A memorial service at the Rockville (Conn.) United Methodist Church will be held at a later date. Jean will be buried in the family plot in Westerly, R.I., Friday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions in Jean’s name may be made to the Salvation Army or to the Rockville Methodist Church, 142 Grove Street, Rockville, Conn., 06066.
