Kim Bahr and her daughter Danielle have finally done what they’ve always wanted to do. They opened their very own salon and spa on December 20. It’s on Route 107 in Royalton, almost on the Bethel town line.

Danielle graduated from high school in Royalton in 2004 and worked for a while in a salon in Woodstock. Eventually, she went to New Jersey to study cosmetology. She got her license there, and then came up to New Hampshire for a few hundred hours of additional study required for her Vermont license. She is now licensed in all three states.

Meanwhile, her mother Kim, who looks more like Danielle’s sister, decided to take the same course in New Hampshire, and eventually got licensed there and in Vermont as well.

The next step was to go into business together and open a salon and spa, which they call Bahrette’s. Their enterprise covers the whole spectrum of cosmetology, ranging from a total, almost day-long treatment that includes a host of services and much pampering, to individual offerings ranging from haircuts, hair coloring, perms, shampooing and styling, make up, ear piercing, waxing treatments, facials, manicures, pedicures, massage, reflexology, and body detox.

Nor do they cater solely to women. In addition to men’s haircuts, Bahrette’s will take care of the "high maintenance" guy who wants to take care of himself in detail.

In their endeavor, they are assisted as shop manager by Lisa Johnson of Sharon who has been in the beauty industry for nine years. Johnson specializes in nail technology and is also an educator in the field. Her work has taken her as far out as Tennessee, and down to New York City where she has brought new ideas and techniques to beauty salons.

As a new enterprise, Bahrette’s will (for now) take walk-in clients without appointment. Throughout the month of January, they will also offer promotional discounts. Eventually, Kim and Danielle Bahr hope to expand their business to include tanning in their spectrum of services. Meanwhile, they are clearly enjoying their exciting new adventure.
