Ghosts Avenge Earlier Loss
By Cody Montgomery

The Randolph boys traveled to Northfield last Wednesday and won, 48-45, avenging an earlier 34-33 loss.

The scoring in the first quarter went back and forth all the way, with Randolph getting their first lead 5-4 two minutes in. After being down 11-8, Connor Fowler hit a jumper, and Mike Czok hit one of three Randolph treys in the first quarter, two of which were hit by Ira Tillberg. Randolph led 13-11 after the first quarter.

Randolph started the second quarter on a 6-2 run, getting their point from a jump shot, the fast break, and the foul line. In the second half of the quarter, Northfield started sinking shots as they made a run to tie the game at 24 and again at 26 at halftime.

Markus Farnham opened the quarter sinking two foul shots to give the Ghosts the advantage. Northfield then hit a three, but Fowler matched it with a three-pointer of his own. Farnham had four rebounds in the quarter, and gave the Ghosts a four-point edge with a put-back underneath from an offensive rebound.

The Marauders came back with a 6-0 run to take the lead before Kyle Connolly tied it back up with a fast-break lay-up. Northfield scored twice more, before Czok brought them back within one with a three-pointer. Randolph trailed 39-38 at the end of three quarters.

Randolph’s defense stepped up in the fourth, holding Northfield to six points. Tillberg and Farnham each scored baskets inside to give the Ghosts a three-point advantage early in the quarter, and the Ghosts held Northfield to only two points in the final five and a half minutes. When Northfield stole the ball with less than two minutes left and went straight to the hoop, Farnham out-hustled his opponent and swatted the ball away at the rim to preserve the lead. With just nine seconds left, Northfield missed a shot, and Czok was there to gather in the rebound to end the Marauder’s chances. Czok added two more foul shots to put the score at a final 48-45.

Czok led the scoring for Randolph with 13 points. Tillberg had 11, Farnham had nine with six rebounds, Fowler had seven, White four, Connolly and Zack Allard two each. Wayne Dion led Northfield with 13 points.

The Ghost boys’ record is now 3-4. They played Mt. Abraham at home Wednesday, and will play People’s Academy away on Friday.
