Rochester Ladies Add Two More Wins By Megan Harvey On Thursday, Jan. 4, the Rochester Ladies traveled the two hours it takes to get to the Blue Mt. Buck’s gym. It didn’t take long for the Rockets to take the lead and dominate the game. At the end of the half, the Rockets were leading the Bucks and not looking back. The rest of the game went smoothly as Rochester’s Sam Cutting and Sam Mishkit passed the ball around the outside looking for their shot towards the basket, or with sharp passes underneath to the forwards. Blue Mt. could not stop them as Rochester went on to win the game 48-39. Lead scorers for Rochester were Mishkit with 15 points, Jody Martin with 14, and Cutting with 13. Heather Gorton also did an incredible job crashing the boards. Rochester played Craftsbury Saturday and used a strong second half to win 55-35. It was a sluggish first half, and the first quarter ended with a low score of 12-11. The high point of the quarter was by Mishkit when she took a driving reverse layup under the basket. The second quarter went a lot like the first, and the half-time buzzer ended with Rochester leading by only 4, 21-17. After the half time pep-talk by Coach Martin and Coach Mills, the Rocket Ladies came out with a mission. Martin got things started with a nice jumper at the top of the key. Cutting turned on the speed as she had a number of fast breaks in the second half resulting in baskets. In the third quarter, Rochester outscored Craftsbury by 10 points, leading 37-23. The fourth quarter was a sad one for Craftsbury, as Rochester’s defense held the Chargers to only 13 points the whole quarter. Rochester went on to win 55-35 with Cutting leading the way with 19 points. Martin added 18 points and Mishkit had 11. Rochester played in Chelsea on Tuesday and then play again Saturday, Jan. 13. ____________ |
