Urologist Dr. Michael Curtis Joins Gifford Medical Center Urologist Dr. Michael Curtis of South Strafford has joined The Urology Center at Gifford Medical Center. Dr. Curtis maintains a private practice, Twin River Urology in White River Junction, is an adjunct assistant professor of surgery at Dartmouth Medical School and will now be providing urological care at Gifford one day per week. The recipient of outstanding teaching and clinical excellence awards, a speaker and published author, Dr. Curtis is known for his work providing medical care to less fortunate nations. He worked with Doctors Without Borders in Bangladesh, Bosnia and Macedonia, and visits a Zambian village, providing free medical care and maintaining an African medical license. Dr. Curtis received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and his medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. His general surgery internship and residency along with his urology residency were at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He is board certified by the American Board of Urology. He has been in private practice since 1998 and joins Gifford to help more Vermonters. Dr. Curtis’ primary focus is on outpatient surgical procedures for prostate enlargement, kidney stones, incontinence and vasectomies. He has already performed a procedure that is new to Gifford. He and Gifford obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Gailyn Thomas recently performed a less-invasive, highly effective urinary incontinence surgery at Gifford. The procedure, which involves supporting a fallen bladder with an artificial mesh material, allows the patient to go home the same day of the surgery without a catheter. Dr. Curtis is married to Margaret Curtis, who is also a medical doctor. They have two children and a third on the way. They also run a mostly-organic vegetable and livestock farm in South Strafford, and he jokingly assures his neighbors that he is a much better surgeon than he is a farmer. To schedule an appointment in Randolph with Dr. Curtis, call 728-2470 or ask your primary care doctor for a referral. ____________ |
