RUHS Boys Lose to Mt. Abe

Mount Abraham scored a combined 49 points in the first and third quarters as they defeated the Randolph boys, 67-46, in Bristol last Friday.

The Ghosts made eight turnovers, fueling the Eagles’ 23-9 run in the first quarter.

After being down 31-12 five minutes through the second period, Thomas Jacobs worked hard on the boards and scored the final six points for Randolph in the second quarter. Jacobs had five rebounds, and Cody Montgomery had four rebounds in the quarter. The Ghosts trailed Mt. Abe 31-18 at halftime.

Mt. Abe hit four treys and Randolph gave up 10 turnovers as they were outscored 26-12 in the third quarter. Connor Fowler made five points and Jon White hit a jumper to bring the Ghosts within 12 points early, but Mt. Abe made a run that put them ahead, 57-30, at the end of the quarter. Montgomery did another good job on the boards, getting four more rebounds.

Randolph did a good job defensively in the fourth as they got eight steals and gathered 12 rebounds in the final quarter, closing the gap to within 16 points. Fowler and Mike Czok each hit three pointers, and Jacobs and White had four points each in the quarter. The Eagles added a bunch of free throws at the end of the game to win 67-46.

Jacobs led the way for Randolph with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Fowler had 11 points and six rebounds. Czok had seven points, White had six points, Zack Allard had four points, Montgomery had two points and eight rebounds, Derek Riley had two points, and Ira Tillberg had one point.

Junior Will Manley had four treys and scored 18 points for the Mount Abraham Eagles, who improved their record to 9-1.

Randolph’s game at Harwood Monday was postponed and moved to Monday, Jan. 22. The boys play rival Montpelier at home on Friday, the 19th.
