Randolph Boys Lose Two

The Randolph boys’ basketball team lost a very close home game to Montpelier last Friday, 53-48. They also lost to Harwood away on Monday, 75-39.

Montpelier Loss

The Randolph boys played a hard fought game against the Montpelier Solons last Friday night at home.

Connor Fowler had the hot hand in the first quarter for Randolph. Fowler opened the game up with a trey from the corner. Fowler went on to score nine of the 10 Randolph points in the first quarter, as the Ghosts found themselves down 14-10 at the end of eight minutes.

The scoring went back and forth in the second period for the first three minutes until Jon White scored six points in a row for Randolph, bringing them within one of the Solons, 20-19. Trailing by one with a minute left, Mike Czok hit a three to give the Ghosts their first lead of the quarter, 24-22. Montpelier answered near the end of the quarter, tying the game at 24 at halftime.

Thomas Jacobs started out the third quarter with some hard-earned baskets in the paint. After being down 30-28, the Ghosts went on a 10-0 run to lead by eight. Randolph made a few foul shots, and Fowler scored seven points to fuel the run. Montpelier made a run of their own at the end of the quarter, including a shot at the buzzer, with Randolph leading, 38-36.

After the game was tied at 42, the Solons hit two foul shots, then got two more points off a Randolph turnover. Montpelier was successful at running the time down to about 45 seconds before they hit two foul shots. Randolph answered with Fowler and Jacobs sinking three foul shots to bring the Ghosts within two, with 20 seconds left. Randolph got the steal on the full-court press, but couldn’t get the roll to tie the game at 48.

Montpelier added two foul shots, and White immediately scored for Randolph, bringing them within two, 50-48, with 11 seconds left. Montpelier sank three more foul shots, and Randolph couldn’t get another opportunity to score, losing to the Solons, 53-48.

Connor Fowler led all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Jacobs had 11 points and 8 rebounds, White had 11 points, Czok had 3, Ira Tillberg had 2 and 10 rebounds, and Zack Allard and Kyle Connolly each had 1 point.

Harwood Loss

The Randolph boys lost to Division I Harwood away on Monday, 75-39. Combined with their amazing speed, Harwood nailed 13 three-pointers and nearly shot 50% from the three-point line and from the field. Harwood junior Liam Smith scored 20 points on four treys, with 18 of his 20 coming in the first half.

Fowler had 9 points, White had 8, Jacobs had 6 points and 6 rebounds, Connolly had 4, Markus Farnham and David Cooch had 3, Czok and Derek Riley had 2 each, and Allard and Tillberg each scored 1. Cody Montgomery and Riley each had 4 rebounds off the bench.

JV Loss

The JV boys also lost to Harwood, 36-28. They trailed 18-1 after the first quarter, and came back and played very well in the second half. Dylan Smith had 9 points, Jason Hicks and Andrew McClure had 6.

The Randolph boys played Lamoille at home Wednesday. They also play heated rival U-32 away on Friday.
