Chandler & W.R. Craft Center Get Vt. Arts Council Grants

Among the recipients of the Vermont Arts Council’s Cultural Facilities Grants and Creation Grants for 2007 are two local facilities.

The Cultural Facilities Grant program is administered by the Vermont Arts Council in conjunction with the Vermont Historical Society, Vermont Museum & Gallery Alliance, and the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation. Now in its 18th year, the purpose of this program is to assist Vermont nonprofit organizations and municipalities enhance, create or expand the capacity of an existing building to provide cultural activities for the public. It is funded through an annual appropriation in the Capital Budget.

One of the recipients of this year’s Cultural Facilities Grants is the White River Craft Center of Randolph, which will receive $11,200 to support the purchase and installation of a furnace.

Receiving a 2007 Creation Grant is the Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph, which will use its $2,750 grant to commission new music from three local composers as part of Chandler’s centennial celebration in 2007-08. A combined group of at least 10 community choruses from around Vermont will perform work by Gwyneth Walker, the world-renowned Hilliard Ensemble vocal group will perform music by Kathy Eddy, and the Chiara String Quartet will perform work by Erik Nielsen.
