Elliot S. Maxwell

WHITE RIVER JCT.—Elliot Samuel Maxwell, 88, died Jan. 15, 2007 at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., after a long illness.

He was born April 22, 1918 in Waitsfield, the son of Martin "Lloyd" and Blanche (Long) Maxwell. He grew up in Waitsfield and attended school there.

He married Marjorie Brooks in 1943. They had four children together and were later divorced.

During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Air Corps. After being discharged from the military, he transported milk in Warren. In 1956 he went to work for the State of Vt. Highway Dept., retiring in the mid 1970s.

In 1980, he married Marjorie Heartt. They lived in Norwich and later moved to Springfield for a time, until moving to White River Junction in 2003.

He was predeceased by his wife and two brothers, Oliver and Gilbert Maxwell.

Survivors include two sons, Ernie Maxwell of White River Jct., and Anthony "Tony" Maxwell of Thetford Center; two daughters, Sally Locke of Clayton, Del.; and Carole Hamner of Hartland; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Milford Maxwell of Quechee; and several nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held in the Hillside Cemetery in Norwich at a later date. Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. assisted with the arrangements.
