On Saturday afternoon, the Rocket Ladies played a home game against a much improved Division III Poultney team. The first lead of the game was held in Rochester’s hands, as the Ladies moved the ball crisply around the court. By the end of the first half, Rochester had gained a lead of 41-28 over Poultney. While Sam Mishkit led the team offensively with 13 points in the first half alone, Jody Martin had six rebounds on the defensive side. Sam Mishkit started the second half off with a nice 3-point shot from way beyond the line. Midori Cruikshank followed Martin’s lead, and had seven rebounds for the Rockets following Martin’s nine. It was a smooth second half as Rochester went on to win the game 65-45. Mishkit led the Rockets with 19 points, while Sam Cutting put in 11. Chelsea at Rochester The Rockets and the Chelsea Red Devils met for the second time this season on Tuesday night. After an even first quarter, Rochester began to pull away and headed into the locker room, leading 28-18. Rochester used its smothering defense to force a number of turnovers in the third quarter. The Rockets extended their lead in the third to 41-27. Caitlin Cutting disrupted Chelsea’s offense with five steals in the final quarter. The Rockets won the game with a balanced offense, Sam Cutting scored 10 points and Heather Gorton, Erica Parker and Mishkit each put in nine points. The Rochester Rockets JV team led Chelsea from the first quarter and continued to build steam with every quarter that followed. Ahead 28-13 at the half, the Rockets finished the game up, 55-25. Megan Pratt popped in 18 points, Caitlin Cutting added 15 and Sarah Lanpher contributed 10 points. Rochester’s next game is away on Saturday, Feb. 3 against the Cabot Huskies. ____________ |
