RUHS Wrestlers Place Well At NVACs By Rachel Jarvis Last weekend the Randolph Ghosts traveled to Vergennes for the annual Northern Vermont Athletic Conference. Randolph, traveling with only seven wrestlers, placed fourth out of 16 teams. Randolph finished the day with six place finishers. 1st Place Finishers Seth Dezan received a first place finish on Saturday. He had a bye all the way to the semi’s due to the small weight class. In semi’s he wrestled James Badman of Middlebury, and defeated him with a tech fall. In finals Dezan wrestled Michael Baril of Spaulding and defeated him with a decision of 7 to 2, giving him his first place finish. Ben Adams also received a first place finish, and had a bye until semi’s as well. In semi’s he went against Kyle Odell of Middlebury, and defeated him with a pin time of 5 minutes, 1 second. In finals Adams wrestled long time rival Jesse Garrett of Mt. Mansfield and defeated him with a fall time of 5 minutes, 48 seconds. 2nd Place Finisher Wrestling at 135 pounds was David Maxfield. In his first match he wrestled Amber Thomas of Mt. Mansfield and defeated her with a pin time of 1 minute, 47 seconds. Moving on, Maxfield wrestled Bobby Circee of Milton and defeated him with a pin time of 1 minute, 13 seconds. In semi’s Maxfield wrestled Travis Brigante of Colchester and defeated him with a decision of 6 to 2. In finals, Maxfield went up against Doug Rosenburg of St. Johnsbury, but was defeated in the last period. 3rd Place Finishers Both Wes and Matt Simpson placed third this past weekend. Wes had a bye in the first round, but went on to wrestle Travis Killborn of Vergennes. W. Simpson defeated him with a pin time of 37 seconds. In semi’s he wrestled Kyle Edmunds of Spaulding, but was defeated in the third period. Moving to consi semi’s Wes wrestled Kory Martell of Mt. Abe, and defeated him with a tech fall. In consi finals, he wrestled Derek Bolduc of Mt. Mansfield and defeated him with a decision of 4 to 2. Matt started out the day with a win against Tomas Cohen of St. Johnsbury, beating him with a major decision. In his next match he wrestled Cole Lossman of Mt. Abe, and defeated him with a decision of 11 to 4. In semi’s Simpson wrestled Josh Kernan of Harwood, but was defeated in the first period. Moving on to consi semi’s, he wrestled Kyle Graham of Mt. Mansfield, and defeated him with a decision of 14 to 8. In consi finals M. Simpson went up against Cole Lossman again and defeated him with a decision of 6 to 2, giving him a third place finish. 4th Place Finish James Wright finished fourth this past weekend. He had a bye the first round, but went on to wrestle Kevin Youngman of Mt. Mansfield. Wright was defeated by a minor decision. In his next match he wrestled Steven Campbell of CVU, and defeated him with a pin time of 1 minute, 24 seconds. Moving on, he wrestled Willie Nesbett of Enosburg, and defeated him with a pin time of 4 minutes, 30 seconds. Next he wrestled Ken Demingware of Spaulding. In consi finals, he wrestled Scott Little of Milton, but was defeated by a minor decision. Other Matches Stephen Bent had a bye in the first round, but went on to wrestle Robert Hamlin of Mt. Mansfield. Bent was defeated in the second period. He had another bye in the next round, then went on to wrestle Garrison Leduc of Middlebury. Bent defeated him with a decision of 8 to 7. In his next match he wrestled Mitch Jackman of Vergennes, but was defeated in the last period. Tom Kirkpatrick of Northfield competed this last weekend. He had a bye his first round, then went on to wrestle Jacob Atwood of Mt. Mansfield, but was defeated in the first period. He had another bye in the next round, but moved on to wrestle Brett Jipner of Mt. Abe. Kirkpatrick was defeated in the second period. The Ghosts have a weekend off, then it is on to the State Tournament at St. Johnsbury. ____________ |
