Chelsea Girls Wrap It Up
By Mary Childs

The Chelsea Red Devil girls team hosted Whitcomb the day after a game against Twinfield on Wednesday the 7th. With both teams coming off tough games the previous night, the game took a slow pace with little scoring.

The score at halftime was 11-8, Whitcomb taking the lead with a three point buzzer shot. The buzzer shot put Chelsea at a disadvantage for the rest of the game, and they unfortunately could not pull out the win. Whitcomb took home the 25-18 win.

Robyn Kennedy was Chelsea’s high scorer with seven points and Molly Taylor led Whitcomb with nine points.

Senior Night

The Chelsea girls celebrated their senior night last Friday, Jan. 9, honoring Mary Childs, Lindsey Smith, and Jill Cray.

Chelsea hosted the Cabot Huskies in a close game. Both teams played tough defense as the game proved to be an even match.

The Chelsea girls were down by one point at the end of the first half, 19-18.

In the third quarter Chelsea picked it up, forced turnovers and worked their offense for a three-point advantage going into the fourth. Unfortunately Cabot came out strong defensively and held the Devils to only one basket. Cabot took home a 36-29 win.

Kennedy was Chelsea’s high scorer with 14 points.

Chelsea vs. BMU

Chelsea traveled to Blue Mountain Union, and were once again missing a player, guard Robyn Kennedy. On the other hand Chelsea’s Jill Cray was up and ready to play, coming back from an injury. Unfortunately Chelsea came out slow and the Bucks came out strong.

At the end of the first quarter, the score was 10-4, BMU leading. The second quarter played out like the first, as the Lady Devils couldn’t seem to put a basket in. The Bucks took a 10-point lead at the half.

Chelsea picked it up in the second half, playing even with the Bucks throughout the third quarter. But Chelsea’s efforts were not enough and BMU won the match, 34-19.

The Devils have had a roller coaster season, not playing a game with their full team since their first game of the season. Chelsea wrapped up the regular season with a 6-14 record.
