The Randolph Gal ghosts ended their regular season with two close losses for a 7-13 record. Randolph lost to U-32 by seven and to Lyndon by eight last week. U-32 Loss The game at U-32 away Tuesday night was an unusually low scoring first half by both teams. Randolph could only manage a jumper by Brynn Fabian in the first quarter. The U-32 Raiders didn’t fare much better as they could only muster a jumper and a foul shot. Randolph pulled ahead in the second by outscoring U-32, 7-5. Fabian and Sharayah Nonemacher scored the first points in the second with three from points in the second with three from the charity strip. A trey from the Raiders put them on top, 6-5 before Emily Howe put a spin move on that ended with a bucket. Arielle Connolly did a good job on the boards, but U-32 took the edge once more with a hoop at 2:26. Kelsey Higgins made a good move to the hoop and got the basket with just 40 seconds on the clock and the Gal Ghosts held on to the 9-8 edge at the half time break. Just 30 seconds into the second half of action saw Higgins hitting from beyond the arc to put Randolph up by four. The Raiders went on a seven point run to take over the lead, 15-12. Howe ended that run with a jumper followed by two Fabian steals but Randolph couldn’t get another hoop to fall. Nonemacher ended the drought with a put-back but the Raiders ended the third with a three-pointer and a jumper for the 22-16 lead. Nonemacher started off the final stanza with two steals and Shelby Peltier took the second steal all the way home with a shot from downtown. Howe brought the Gal Ghosts within two, 22-20 with a foul shot. Unfortunately U-32 went on a six-point run that Randolph couldn’t recover from. Fabian, Nonemacher and Howe all scored at the end, but the Raiders walked away with the seven point victory. After the game Coach Alan Stewart said, "I’m happy with the defense but we have got to get the ball into the shooters hands in tight situations." About the play-offs Stewart said, "We’ll probably play Tuesday; I just don’t know who or where yet." The only player in double figures was U-32’s #33 Ally Dowen with 11 points. Randolph’s scorers were Howe with 8, Nonemacher with 6, Fabian and Higgins had 5 each and Peltier added 3. Nonemacher also had 10 rebounds, Howe had 6 and Fabian and Connolly each added 5 boards. Loss to Lyndon Randolph celebrated senior night last Thursday as Higgins, Morgan Stewart, Fabian, Peltier, Howe, Nonemacher and Rachel DiStefano were all honored with flowers and a speech by the under classmen. Unfortunately for the seniors and the rest of the team the last home game of the season did not end in a win. The Lyndon Lancers won the contest by eight, 40-32. Both teams started the game strong with Lyndon scoring 18 and Randolph adding 14. The Lancers moved out to a 12-2 lead with a definite edge on the boards. Connolly and Peltier drove through and scored for the Gal Ghosts but Lyndon matched both of those shots. Two treys by Fabian pulled Randolph back on board and Howe managed to muscle her way to some rebounds. Randolph’s defense was outstanding in the second period as they held the Lancers to a measly two points. Meanwhile Fabian added seven of the nine points the Gal Ghosts put in. The Ghosts held a slim 23-20 edge at the break. Unfortunately Lyndon returned the favor in the third period holding Randolph to just two while adding 13 of their own. Lyndon led 33-25 at the end of three. Peltier had two foul shots in the third. The fourth period was neck and neck with Peltier and Howe quickly adding four points to pull within four. Nonemacher bettered Lyndon’s next shot with a try, but with just 1:13 left on the clock, Randolph started fouling and the Lancers hit five freebies to end the match with the 40-32 win. Lyndon had two players in double figures, #31 Danyelle Shufelt with 11 Points and #12 Margaret Hilton with 10. Randolph’s scorers were Peltier with 15 points, Fabian 8, Nonemacher 5 and Connolly and Howe 2 each. Howe and Fabian also each had 8 rebounds. J.V. Games The J.V. squad played a great game versus Lyndon and tied it up, 44-44 to send the game into overtime. It was retied 50-50 with 1:28 left to go but Lyndon ended up with the win, 52-50. High scorers were Heather Surprenant with 18 points, Emily Beaudin with 9 and Molly Harrness with 8. The J.V. team lost a close one to U-32, 34-27, the exact same score as the varsity game.
