Take Chandler On Town Meeting day the voters of Randolph will be asked to decide on many important issues, among them a bond for Chandler Music Hall. The music hall is a treasure in our midst and celebrates its 100th birthday this year. For too many years, needed repairs and upgrades have had to be sidelined for more pressing matters. Now, this deferred maintenance has reached a critical point and needs to be addressed so that the venerable hall can begin its second century. That the hall is an entertainment Mecca is undisputed. The best talent in various disciplines is drawn to our town by this unique venue, a feat that towns 10 times our size cannot match. What may not be as well understood is the economic importance of the hall to the town and its merchants, schools and civic associations. The hall provides a home to many programs beyond those listed in the annual program. From technical theater education to the unparalleled summer theater camp that provides the 4th of July shows, Chandler is a hub of activity for all ages and tastes. The Gallery provides a showcase for local arts and crafts just as the main stage provides a showcase for other talents. The various workshops, annual meetings and educational opportunities are critical in the mix that we need to provide the continued impetus for bringing vitality to the Randolph area. I urge a YES vote on the Chandler bond to keep this marvelous hall open to all and to bring it safely into its next century. It will be money well spent on the future of Randolph.
