C. McCullough Sr.

CHELSEA—Charles "Shod" McCullough Sr., 75, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph .

He was born February 12, 1932 in Chelsea, the son of Dwight N. and Lucy L (Betts) McCullough. He attended school in Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1951. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War from 1952-54.

On July 4, 1957 he married Sarah "Sally" Metcalf. They lived their entire married life in Chelsea.

He worked for many years for the Town of Chelsea, driving a truck for the Town Highway Department. He also worked for many years for McCullough Crushing of Chelsea as well as owning and operating a trucking business, using his dump truck and tractor trailer. He retired in 1997.

He was a member of the Chelsea Fish & Game Club and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed gardening, deer hunting with his large family, and fishing with his family and friends. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball for the Chelsea town teams.

Survivors include his wife, of Chelsea; two sons: Charles R. McCullough Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Caroline, Wisc; and Dwayne A. McCullough of Finksburg., Md.; two daughters: Rebecca M. McCullough and her husband, William Armstrong of Falmouth, Mass.; and Laurie A. McCullough and her husband, Mark Howard, of Hadley, Mass.; three grandchildren; twins, Emma and George Armstrong and Lucy Howard; three brothers: Dwight N. McCullough Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; and Alan H. McCullough and Maurice G. "Spike" McCullough, both of Chelsea; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Harriet "Becky" McCullough.

Calling hours were held Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home on Main Street in Chelsea. A time of fellowship and refreshments was held at the Chelsea Town Hall following the calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be held later this spring in the Riverside Cemetery in Chelsea.
