CHELSEA—Marjorie Evans Sanford, 88, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at the Mayo Healthcare Facility in Northfield. She was born March 26, 1918, in Westport, Conn., the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Bates) Evans. She graduated from high school in Westport, Conn., and then began her nurse’s training. She married John B. Sanford Jr. May 16, 1937, and they lived in the Redding, Conn. area for many years. Following her husband’s retirement, they moved to Chelsea West Hill in 1980. She was a founding member of the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the local Homemakers Knitting Club. She was active in Long Ridge church dinners and the dinners at the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, where she made the original draperies for the hall. She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 2005; her son, David A. Sanford, who died this past year; and her brother, Burton Evans. Survivors include three sons and their wives: John B. and Edith Sanford of West Redding, Conn., Donald and Sally Sanford of Chelsea, and Bruce and Jackie Sanford of West Redding, Conn.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Bargetti of Newton, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring at a date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Branch Ambulance Service, Inc., P.O. Box 74, Chelsea, Vt., 05038; or to the West Redding Fire Department Ambulance Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. ____________ |
