TSA Girls 1 and 1 In Play-off Action
By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier

The 11th seeded TSA Phoenix girls traveled to Ludlow on Wednesday, Feb. 21 to face the 6th seeded Black River Presidents in the play-downs. TSA defeated the higher seed host-opponents by one point, 38 to 37 for the upset victory and secured a trip to the quarter-finals where they faced the 3rd seeded Danville Indians Saturday.

Down by five at the break, a 9-4 run in the third enabled TSA to tie and eventually move ahead of the Presidents during the fourth and that one-point edge was all the Phoenix needed as the pressured Black River Presidents had the ball at the six-second mark but failed to connect when a long distant lob failed and the clock ran out.

President Courtney Chambers finished with a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the outing.

Zannah Pierce was TSA’s high scorer with 16 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double of her own.

Loss to Indians

The Sharon Academy’s basketball season came to a halt at the hands of the Danville Indians on Saturday, Feb. 18 in quarter-final action, 62-35. The Phoenix and the Indians stayed close during the first quarter with TSA holding a one-point led 9-8 after one. Danville took over in the second and third periods outscoring TSA 34-15 before going on to cap the win 62-35.

For the second game in a row Pierce had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds playing in her final game for TSA.
