Cape Breton Music On Friday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m., Cape Breton fiddler Brenda Stubbert and piano accompanist Melissa Emmons will perform at a house concert at the Telford home at 1060 Bent Hill Rd. in Braintree. Stubbert grew up in Point Aconi, Nova Scotia, and was nurtured by the music that was all around and in the family home. She started dancing at the age of five, moved on to the piano at the age of seven, and then also picked up the fiddle. Her father, Robert Stubbert, is a fiddler, and the house was a gathering place for many influential fiddlers such as Joe Confiant, Johnny Wilmot and Winston Fitzgerald. In her twenties, she was also greatly influenced by Arthur Muise and Jerry Holland. Emmons is a fiddler, pianist and music teacher who has roots in Vermont, and a deep love of the music of Cape Breton, where she now lives. Tickets will be sold in advance and at the door and there will be potluck dessert and beverages. For more information, or to reserve a seat, call Beth or Clint Telford at 728-6351. ____________ |
