'Vt. Seasons' Paintings
At Police Barracks

Four paintings by artist Elizabeth Nelson of West Glover were installed in the state police barracks in Royalton last week.

The suite of paintings, titled "Vermont Seasons, 2006," depicts Pomfret in spring, Tunbridge in summer, South Royalton in autumn, and Sharon in winter.

The paintings will be rotated, with three in the conference room, and the current season hanging in the waiting area.

This newest "Art in State Buildings" installation was celebrated last Wednesday afternoon with a reception at the Route 107 barracks. Troopers stationed at the new barracks and members of a local committee charged with reviewing artist-candidates and approving the final project were among the attendees.

Artist Elizabeth Nelson said that it was an honor to be selected for the commission.

The Art in State Buildings program is designed to support and promote the work of Vermont artists, and to enrich the state's cultural landscape. The program also aims to enhance working environments in state-owned buildings and public spaces.

The program is administered by the Vermont Arts Council and the Buildings and General Services Dept. Since 1988, more than two dozen projects have been commissioned.
