Feeney Now State
Police Detective
By Chris Costanzo

Bethel’s Paul Feeney, a state trooper, has been sighted around town carrying out official police duties in civilian clothes. The Herald contacted him last Saturday and learned that he has been assigned for the next few years as a detective at the Royalton Barracks.

Feeney has been in law enforcement for 14 years, the first four with local police in Pennsylvania, and the following 10 years in Bethel with the Vermont State police. He was trained at the Vermont Police Academy and over the years, has taken additional police courses in interviewing, investigation and other topics.

He told The Herald that he has always been interested in detective work. He will be the fourth detective on the staff at the Royalton State Police Barracks, which currently has two regular detectives, and an arson detective. Feeney’s area of emphasis will be child abuse and assault cases.

After his tour of duty as a detective, Feeney will either return to work as a uniformed trooper or else continue in detective work. He has an interest in being an arson detective in the future, but wishes to stay in the area. Feeney, who is active in Bethel town affairs, told The Herald that he has no interest in any assignment that will take him away from Bethel.
