RANDOLPH CENTER—Leland J. Armstrong, 72, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland. He was born April 30, 1934 in East Randolph, the son of Harold W. and Florence (Piche) Armstrong. He attended Randolph schools and graduated from Randolph High School in 1952. He married Veronica Owen July 16, 1955 in Randolph. Following his education, he went to work at L.W. Greenwood’s in East Randolph. He worked there for 44 years as a mechanic and later as a shop foreman. He then worked for his son, Perry, as manager of Four Seasons Rental from 1993-2001. After that, he helped his wife at Veronica’s Garden in Randolph Center. His memberships included the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel, E. Randolph and Randolph Center Fire Departments, Randolph Zoning Board, White River Valley Ambulance and the National Ski Patrol, Vermont Division. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. He loved skiing and wind surfing. He also enjoyed sugaring, kayaking and teaching his grandchildren to ski. In earlier years he liked swimming and water skiing. Survivors include his wife, Veronica Armstrong of Randolph Center; two sons: Perry Armstrong of Randolph and Douglas Armstrong of Randolph Center; a daughter, Deborah Sanders of Shaftsbury; three brothers: Marshall Armstrong of Boston, Mass.; and Lawrence and Stanley Armstrong, both of East Randolph; and six grandchildren: Jessica Martell, Christopher and Cody Armstrong, Kristen Cables and Lyle and Abigail Sanders. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 28 at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel on Rte. 66 in Randolph, with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling officiating. Calling hours were Tuesday evening at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. Burial will be at a later date in the Randolph Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Justin Morgan Christian School, Vt. Rte. 66, Randolph, Vt. 05060; or to the National Ski Patrol, Northern Vt.
