Anichini Threads Count Toward Global Sustainability Anichini, the world’s most exclusive collection of linens and fine textile furnishings, has announced that, as of April 1, the company is donating 1% of all revenue from its five Anichini retail stores to the Sustainability Institute in Hartland. If the program had been in place last year, the donation would have been "in the ballpark of $40,000," a company spokesperson said. "The time has come for Anichini to partner with an organization that is focusing on the issues we face globally," said Susan Dollenmaier, owner of Anichini. "My early work with global visionary Buckminster Fuller has led me in this direction. "I have searched for an organization that resonates with Anichini’s values and chosen the Sustainability Institute because, like Anichini, they are Vermont based, yet influential on a global scale. I look forward to developing a relationship with the institute where we can address issues that Anichini faces, such as developing sustainable packaging and creating an industry standard of ‘green’ bedding for hospitality properties." The Sustainability Institute was founded in 1996 by the late Donella Meadows, an Environmental Studies professor at Dartmouth College, and lead author of the book "Limits to Growth." Anichini’s donation is earmarked for the Donella Meadows Leadership Fellows Program. This 18-month program accepts 16-20 career professionals, over half of whom are women, from around the world for leadership training. The participants are influential, involved members of sustainability efforts in government, business, nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. The leadership training and cross-sector networking skills gained from this fellowship enable them to maximize the effectiveness of their sustainability work and support a growing network of their peers. "We’re very excited about partnering with Anichini. The Sustainability Institute has several national and international projects," said Edie Farwell, program director of the Donnella Meadows Leadership Fellows Program. Sales at all five of the Anichini retail locations will contribute to the program, including Anichini Los Angeles, Anichini Dallas, Anichini at ABC Carpet & Home, New York, N.Y.; Anichini Company Store West Lebanon, N.H.; and the Anichini Company Store in Manchester Center. ____________ |
