NEWINGTON, CONN.—Alonzo Baran, 81, of Newington, Conn., husband of Susan (Marcil) Baran, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 in Manchester, Conn. Born in Meriden, Conn., he was the son of the late Izydore and Anna (Wojnilowicz) Baran. He made his home in Newington, Conn. for over 30 years. He was a member of the class of 1943 of the American School for the Deaf and had a long career with New Departure, Pratt and Whitney, retiring from Jacobs Manufacturing in Bloomfield after 27 years of service. He continued to work part-time for Swanson Tool & Die Co. in West Hartford. He was a founding and charter member of the Meriden Club for the Deaf, a member of the Greater Hartford Club for the Deaf, president and active member of the CT Deaf Senior Citizen Center, CCOSD, and a proud member of the United Autoworkers Club. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and in his spare time enjoyed bowling, traveling, playing cards and Tuesdays at the Deaf Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include his wife, Susan; his children: Lydia Vitali and her husband, Don of Bethel; James Baran of Meriden, Conn.; Theodore Baran and his wife, Paula of Vernon, Conn.; Stephanie Deja and her husband, Jeffrey of Germantown, Md.; his grandchildren: Robert Benigni, James Baran, Justine Baran, Brooksley Baran, Brenna Baran, Jaret Deja, and Nolan Deja; his great-grandchildren: Robert Benigni Jr., Brooke Benigni and Michael Benigni; his sister, Evelyn Chase of Randolph; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Benjamin Baran, Edward Baran, and Felix Baran. Calling hours were held at the Molloy Funeral Home in West Hartford, Conn. His service was private.
