Achsa A. Sheldon

EAST RANDOLPH—Achsa A. Sheldon, 90, died Friday, April 13, 2007 at Mayo Health Care in Northfield.

She was born Sept. 20, 1916 in Randolph, the daughter of George and Alta (Williams) Hyde. She was raised in East Randolph, and married Gerald W. Sheldon in Bethel April 7, 1940.

She had worked at Fyles & Rice Plywood in Bethel and for many years at GW Plastics, retiring in 1978. After that, she worked summers at the Calvin Coolidge Historical Site in Plymouth. Her husband died in 1995.

She was a member of the Randolph Baptist Fellowship, Middle Branch Grange, and Home Dems. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, word search puzzles, bird watching, flower gardening, and being with her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Elliott "Buzz" Sheldon of East Randolph; two daughters, Louise Flint of N. Haverill, N.H. and Marsha Wallen of East Randolph; a brother, Edward Hyde of Tunbridge; 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Fred Hyde.

Calling hours were held Monday evening, April 16 at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. Funeral services were also held there Tuesday morning, April 17, with Pastor Richard Dumont officiating. Phyllis Hawley was the organist. Pastor Dumont shared scripture and prayer. Marsha Wallen shared several poems from the book, "Words of Comfort." Louise Flint read "Since Mother Went Away" and "When I Must Leave You," and Dana Brown shared his memories of Achsa.

Burial will be Monday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at the East Randolph Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Mayo Health Care, Patient Activity Fund, 71 Richardson Street, Northfield, Vt. 05663. On-line condolences may be left at www.dayfunerals.com.
