Elizabeth Moses

RANDOLPH--Elizabeth V. Moses, 95, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

She was born on February 29, 1912 in New York, the daughter of Victor and Anna (Pearl) Burns.

She grew up and attended school in Pleasantville, N.Y. and graduated in 1928 at the age of 16. She moved to Greenwich Village, such a country mouse that when she ate in a Chinese restaurant for the first time, she thought the ball of white rice was vanilla ice cream. For many years, she worked Fordham Hospital in the Bronx as a medical secretary.

On April 20, 1943, she married Sigmund Moses, a lawyer, poet, baseball player, and staff sergeant in the Army. After his discharge, they lived in the Bronx, N.Y. In later years, they spent summers at their home on the Hudson River in Riverdale, N.Y. and winters in Florida. They traveled to England several times as well as Italy. In 2004, she moved to Vermont to be close to her daughter.

For most of her married life she was a homemaker, but still found time to act as her husband's legal secretary. They loved going to work together and sharing an office and bag lunch.

She was also an ardent golfer, NY Times crossword puzzle solver, expert knitter and loved watching birds and browsing at the Thrift Shop in Randolph. She was a longtime member of the Dellwood Country Club and Eastern Star. Even after 80 years, she could recite "Casabianca" flawlessly.

Survivors include her husband, Sigmund Moses of Randolph, her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Karl Miller, and her grandchildren, Caitlin Miller of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Aaron Miller.
