Barbara Shoger

RANDOLPH CENTER--Barbara Lee Shoger, 68, of Randolph Center, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, April 19, 2007, at her home.

She was born on April 10, 1939, in Plano, Ill., the daughter of Lyle and Frances (Barnes) Bailey. She graduated from high school in Plano, Ill. in 1957 and married Dean Gordon Shoger in Oswego, Ill., Oct. 5, 1957. They lived in Oswego until moving to Barre in 1985, then came to Randolph Center from South Hadley, Mass., in 1989.

She was a special education assistant for children in the Oswego area for 20 years, then was office manager at the Keeler School in Aurora, Ill. After moving to Vermont, she was the office manager for Ashgate Publishing in Brookfield for several years. Her husband died in 1990. She enjoyed gardening and reading.

Survivors include her son, Gary Lynn Shoger of Oswego, Ill.; her daughter, Diane Shoger and her husband Tim Coughlin of Pittsford, N.Y.; a brother, Chuck Bailey of Arvada, Colo.; a sister, Carol Milligan of Salem, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Greg Lynn Shoger and David Lynn Shoger.

She was predeceased by her infant son, Gregg Alan Shoger.

Memorial services were held Sunday afternoon, April 22, at the First Congregational Church of Randolph Center, with Pastor Thomas Harty officiating. Mim Herwig was the organist. Pastor Harty shared scripture and prayer, read the poem, "Instructions" by Arnold Crompton, and led a time of remembrance. Diane Shoger shared memories of her mother.

The congregation sang "God Will Take Care of You," "Softly and Tenderly," "I Need Thee Every Hour," and "God Be With You." A reception followed in the church fellowship room.

Final services will be Thursday, April 26, in Oswego, Ill. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Visiting Nurses Association & Hospice, P.O. Box 976, White River Junction, Vt., 05001; or to Gifford Medical Center, P.O. Box 2000, Randolph, Vt., 05060.
