The Hornets’ baseball team traveled to Rochester last Friday and played their closest contest to date in the 4-2 defeat. The Hornets trailed Rochester after one, 2-0, then cut the lead by one in the second when a walk put Dan Noel on and Ryan Rogler RBI’d him home. The Hornets scored again in the sixth off an error. Dan Noel and Ryan Litchfield shared the mound with Noel pitching 2-1/3 innings. Loss to Chelsea The Hornets faced the Red Devils for the second time this season on Tuesday in Bethel and fell to their guests 5-3. The Hornets took Chelsea out 3-up and 3-down and led 1-0 after the first inning. Litchfield singled and Rogler brought him home for their only lead of the game. Chelsea got three runs in the third when Jordan Lyford reached on an error, Calvin Hoyt scored on a fielder’s choice and Sean McCarty singled and scored. Scott Karlen reached on an error for Whitcomb and scored for the second Hornet run, after that. Litchfield tripled in the third and scored the third and eventual final Hornet run of the game. Hoyt singled and scored for his second run of the game in the sixth and Jesse Blondin scored Chelsea’s final run in the seventh after he got on by error and Justin Gilbert singled for the only hit of the inning. Hornet Coach Mike Crane said, "We lost because of small mistakes, but we’re getting there." Whitcomb faces the Concord Wildcats on Monday, May 14 away and South Royalton, Tuesday in Bethel.
