New Items on Exhibit

At Historical Museum

The Randolph Historical Museum begins its season with a great deal of excitement. Through the diligence of the curators, more space has been opened, making room for more displays.

The little section towards the office area has been cleared to display a miscellany of items, including children’s books, a school desk, Raleigh bottles, a large portrait of Vermont’s Admiral Dewey and more importantly some of the military items.

Many subtle changes and additions were made to the museum, while maintaining the traditional items. A huge, gorgeous portrait of Albert B. Chandler is now mounted. A well-preserved Patch’s photograph album of individual portraits of high school graduates of the around 1916, as well as graduates of the 1922 Vermont "Aggie" School are ready for viewing. Most of these portraits are identified.

"Come to see what we have been up to, as well view the traditional displays," said curator Harriet Chase.

The traditional displays include: the three-generation Leonard’s Drugstore, Rye’s Barber Shop, and many Gifford Hospital -related items. Also on exhibit are numerous tools and other items made by Sargent Osgood and Roundy and other manufacturers, the more than 200 wood carving tools of Howard Baker, the organ and violin made by Randolph Center residents, the period rooms and the numerous notebooks of picture of houses, streets, businesses and people.

The museum will be open this coming Sunday, May 20, 2-4 p.m. It is located on Salisbury Street above the police station. There is no admission charge, donations are accepted.
