East Valley Is Invited
To Help Plan Future

The East Valley Community Planning Committee will host a pot-luck on Thursday, May 31 at the East Randolph Community Hall at 6 p.m. to talk with residents of the East Valley about recent efforts to revitalize East Randolph’s village.

Since 2004, a small group of East Randolph residents have been working with the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission on a series of projects. In the spring of 2004, the Town of Randolph applied for Village Designation in East Randolph, which was granted. This state program offers tax credits and incentives to businesses who are attempting to revitalize buildings and bring them up to code.

In 2005, Randolph received a Municipal Planning Grant from the Department of Housing and Community Affairs to analyze the transportation needs of East Randolph’s Village. The resulting report includes a draft Transportation Enhancements Grant application for the purposes of building a sidewalk, crosswalks and possibly improved street lighting in the village. The Town is currently working with the Regional Commission to complete the application with the intent of submitting it to VTrans this summer.

In 2006, another Municipal Planning Grant was granted to look more closely at the recreational facilities and opportunities in East Randolph for its residents. The final report, The East Randolph Village Master Plan: Community Facilities and Recreation, has just been completed.

On the 31st, staff from the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission will be on hand to discuss these projects and their progress. In addition to some great food, there will be the opportunity to ask questions and discuss future efforts.

Many East Valley residents will receive a postcard reminder of the event, and posters will be up at the post office and Messier’s General Store.
