Congress’ Duty:

To End the War

Congress can and must end the war in Iraq. The war is a disaster. It was based on lies and unbelievably, the lies and cajoling continue. I wonder, who are these guys, and where is their shame?

The president, after vetoing the $124 billion war funding bill, accused Congress of trying to dictate to the generals on the ground with this bill. Not so; the bill made a timid attempt to hold the Bush and Maliki administrations accountable for their policies.

The ever-mounting death toll in Iraq indicates that some accountability for the people in charge is justified. Congress must refuse to capitulate to President Bush on his war policy.

The people of this country and Iraq, and U.S. troops are counting on Congress. They must stop funding this war, and begin funding a safe and immediate withdrawal.

The goal of this administration is not to "Support the Troops" or "Bring Victory and Democracy to Iraq," as they so often tell us and the media so helpfully repeats. The goal is to continue the war as long as possible. Why? So the oil companies and military contractors can rape two countries, ours and Iraq, and reap the profits.

If you don't believe me, just go out and fill up your gas tank. End the war now!
