Shirley R. Gates

TEMPE, ARIZ.—Shirley R. Gates, formerly of Tunbridge, died April 22, 2007, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was born in Tunbridge on Oct. 22, 1938, to Harold and Burnetta Russ. After graduating from Whitcomb High School in 1956, she went to work for GW Plastics in Bethel.

In 1977, she and her son Scott moved to Tempe, Ariz., and she started working for Danker Laboratories as a lab supervisor. Later she took a position with Holsum Bakery, retiring after 20 years.

An artist at heart, she was fond of any type of arts and crafts, crocheting, knitting, sewing and painting.

She is survived by her son Scott, of Tempe, Ariz.; a sister, Veda Storto and husband Peter; a brother, Stanley Russ and wife Madonna; and one grandson.

She was predeceased by sisters Iva Russ and Irese Ortcari and brother Eugene Russ.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m., July 1, at Fairview Cemetery in Bethel. Arrangements are by Tempe Mortuary in Arizona, and Day Funeral Home, Randolph.
