DORIS "DEE" CHASE
Doris Chase
Doris "Dee" Chase, 76, died Monday, May 14, 2007 at her home in White River Jct., surrounded by family.
She was born August 12, 1930 in Bennington, a daughter of Ernest W. and Gloria (Williamson) Hoisington. She received her education in Arlington schools and St. Joseph's Business College in Bennington as well as training in Employee and Labor Relations at the Postal Management Academy in Silver Springs, Maryland.
She married Everett Chase in 1951 and they have resided in White River Jct. throughout their marriage. She has had a varied business career, operating her own business service, as medical secretary at the V.A. hospital, as administrative assistant to the district manager of the US Postal Service and as Director of Employee and Labor Relations.
Mrs. Chase was active in a number of organizations, serving as treasurer of the Gates Library Loyal Club and of the White River Jct. Methodist Church, as chairperson of the Hartford Booster Club and as an actress with the Hartford Players Group. She was best known as a certified Lay Speaker of the United Methodist Church, providing pulpit supply for a number of small churches in Vermont and New Hampshire.
She enjoyed simple pleasures such as traveling with her husband, reading, writing, gardening, cooking, studying financial news and volunteering. Her most precious time, however, was that spent with family, sharing the wonders of her children and grandchildren's growth and development, and with friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Paul and William, and a sister, Phyllis Cross. Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Pamela DeTore and her husband James of Roslindale, Mass. and Carol Cronce and her husband Neal of Rochester, Vt., a sister, Shirley McTernan of East Arlington, Vt., two grandchildren, Samantha and Ian DeTore, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Thursday from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at the White River Jct. Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Thomas Mousin.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Stevens Scholarship Fund, c/o UMC, 106 Gates Street, White River Jct., Vt. 05001.
