Personalized Books
The Randolph Rotary Club began a new service project this week with the first delivery of a very special book to every first and second grade student at the Randolph, Braintree, and Brookfield elementary schools. For the last several months, Project Manager Kathi Perkins has been working with the staff at each of the schools to collect information about the students. The staff sent questionnaires to the parents who gave basic information such as the child’s full name, nickname, friends or family. This information was then sent to Innovative Creations, which then produced the books. On Tuesday, Perkins delivered the books to the Braintree and Brookfield Schools with the help of fellow Rotary President Mary Beth Tevis, and Supt. Brent Kay, also a Rotarian. The groups of children sat with expectant expressions which rapidly turned to delight and wonder as they found their names and home towns printed right in their books. One boy was particularly pleased that his brother’s name had been spelled correctly. "No one ever spells it right", he said. Tevis expressed hope that the project would continue in future years. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. The Randolph Club presently has more than 45 members. |
