NEWTOWN SQUARE, PENNA. —Madaleen Jacobs Ellis died May 4, 2007, at Lankenau Hospital in Pennsylvania. She was 80. She was born in Brookfield, and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1950. She lived in Newtown Square for more than 40 years. She was a founder, long-time volunteer director, and chairperson of the board of the Newtown Public Library. She continued to volunteer at the library until her death. She was an active member of the Newtown Square Presbyterian Church, the Newtown Historical Society, the Fire Auxiliary, the Echo Valley Community Association, Villagers, and the Women’s Club of Newtown Square. She was also active in local Republican politics. Her husband Charles W. Ellis died in 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen A. Ellis of Baltimore, Md.; two sons, Stephen C. Ellis of Lexington, Mass. and John R. Ellis of Woodside, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Burial was in the Brookfield Cemetery May 11. Donations in her memory may be made to Newtown Public Library, 201 Bishop Hollow Rd., Newtown Square, Penna. 19073 The Frank C.
