Grange Honors Harold Luce
For a Lifetime of Service

On Saturday, April 21, members of the Heart of Vermont Pomona Grange gathered at the Middle Branch Grange Hall in East Bethel to honor Harold Luce for his many years of community service.

The Pomona Award for Public Service is awarded annually to a citizen or organization that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to serving the members of the community.

Harold Luce has had a lifetime of community service in the area. Among his credits are: Serving on the Brookfield School Board, treasurer of Northern Farms Assoc., member of the board of the Council on Aging, member of RSVP, member of the Northeast Fiddlers Assoc., plus he has been a Grange member for 40 years.

In addition to the above activities, Luce has, in the past, delivered food baskets to those in need, driven cancer patients to appointments, been a volunteer driver for Stagecoach, and visited patients at Dartmouth/Hitchcock Medical Center.

He is most well known for his activities in the music world, as a top-notch fiddle player at places such as senior centers, Grange activities, Tunbridge Fair, Alice Peck Day Hospital, contra dances, and the annual Randolph Center carol sing. Somewhere during all this, he also found time to teach others how to play the fiddle.

The award, mounted on a walnut-finished plaque, was presented to Luce by Heart of Vermont Pomona, and State Grange Master Clyde Berry.
