Break-in at Rochester Elementary School

Police are investigating an unauthorized entry and damage at the Rochester Elementary School that was reported early Tuesday morning by a faculty member. The incident is believed to have occurred between 5 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Entry was gained by forcing open a window in the pre-school area of the school, police say. Two interior doors were damaged and one was broken off its hinges.

The door to the nurse’s office was forced open and its glass broken in the process. Several areas of that office appeared to have been rummaged through, police say, but have been unable to confirm that anything had been stolen.

Police recovered a "Glock" brand knife from the floor in the main hallway and believe it was used as a tool in attempts to pry open doors. The knife and other items were seized as evidence and will be processed for possible fingerprints.

There are no suspects at this time.

Anyone who may have any information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact State Trooper Erik McNeice at the Royalton Barracks at 802-234-9933.
