Rebuilding

The Hornet boys had one good inning in their game against the Twinfield Trojans last Saturday in Plainfield, but it wasn’t good enough, as they fell to their hosts 13-7.

Scott Karlen had an RBI in the outing and Dan Noel went 2-for-3 with a double for Whitcomb. Julian Love was on the mound for Twinfield and Deven Hill was on the mound for Whitcomb.

Home Field Losses

The D-III Rivendell Raptors shut out the Whitcomb Hornets, 9-0 in Bethel last Friday o "Senior Recognition Day." Rivendell has seven seniors and Whitcomb has their manager and two players, Becca Majors, Justin Rogler and Scott Karlen.

Rivendell scored three runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third and three more in the seventh for nine unanswered runs. That’s their good news. Their bad new was Raptor pitcher Jesse Oakes was struck by the ball and left the field by ambulance after 1 and 1/3 innings. Sean McCarty replaced the injured Oakes on the mound.

The Blue Mountain Bucks took a five-run lead at the start of the game and added five more runs, one in the third, one in the sixth and three in the seventh for a 10-zip outing against the Hornets last week in Bethel. Runs were scored off four walks, one bunt, two singles and two doubles by Blue Mountain.

Jacob Hunt started on the mound for Whitcomb, struck out four and allowed four walks in four innings. Ryan Rogler finished.

The Hornets almost won their first game of the season against the Concord Wildcats in Bethel Friday, May 18. Concord scored off a single in the first inning before Whitcomb matched the run plus two in the fourth. An error put Ryan Rogler on, followed by a double by brother Justin Rogler and a single by Deven Hill, with all three crossing the plate for a 3-1 Hornet lead.

Concord responded in the fifth with a home run and a run scored off a double-on. The Wildcats also scored off a , putting them back up by one, 4-3. Two errors for two reaches earned the Wildcats two additional runs in the sixth, putting Whitcomb out by three. Deven Hill walked and scored; then Dan Noel singled and scored, putting Whitcomb within one, but the Hornets were unable to get any closer in the 6-5 contest.
