Fund Set Up Here for Fiddler
Diagnosed with Bone Cancer

Cape Breton fiddler supreme Jerry Holland, who is a frequent visitor to Randolph for concerts and teaching, has been diadnosed with bone cancer and may lose his leg to amputation this summer.

That word was received here via a recent email to Beth Telford of Braintree, who schedules Holland’s engagements when he is in Central Vermont and teaches with him at a fiddle camp every summer.

"This operation and the treatment that will ensue could not have come at a worse time for him," wrote another friend, Jack Rowell, "since this is the start of the most active musical season on Cape Breton Island and one in which he hoped to be able to earn the money he needs to keep going.

"So, I invite those of you who, like myself, have been touched over the years—whether by his effective teaching, caring friendship, and deep love of the music, by the warmth and joy and purity of his incredible playing, or by his many enduring beautiful compositions—to do what you can to help him through his time of trouble."

Beth Telford has set up a fund to help her fellow fiddler. Funds from the U.S. should be sent via check payable to Jerry Holland and mailed to her at 1060 Bent Hill Road, Braintree, 05060.

Telford also said in an email that she is planning a series of fundraising concert and events this summer.
