Survey Seeks The Tri-Town Alliance, the trash district comprising Braintree, Brookfield, and Randolph, wants to know what residents want in a recycling program, and also what keeps many folks from recycling more. To assist the Tri-Town Alliance, members of the "Randolph Area Greening" have developed a survey, and have placed it in area businesses, libraries, and municipal offices. Joan Richmond, a member of the "Greening" group, noted that the Alliance needs some feedback from residents about recycling, as it prepares to draft a new contract for trash and recycling services. The current, multi-year contract with Casella Waste Management is drawing to a close, and selectboard members from the three towns want to examine what services the towns need before drafting a new "request for proposals." Richmond noted that Vermont is recycling more, but that growth in non-recycled trash is increasing at a more rapid rate. She urged folks to look for, and take time to fill out, a survey. Her committee is especially interested in hearing from those who don’t recycle, to learn why they don’t, and what might help them to start, she said. Richmond noted that some people have given up on recycling because they fear that because the material they bring is "mingled" at the drop-off point, it doesn’t really get recycled at all. "It is," Richmond stressed. "It’s just an automated system." It would be best to fill out a survey by June 18, so that results can be compiled for the next Tri-Town Alliance meeting. However, data from forms filled out after then will still be used. ____________ |
