Dr. Cristine Maloney Heads Cristine Maloney of Randolph received her Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Vermont’s College of Medicine, at commencement ceremonies May 20. Next for Maloney is a three-year residency through Yale University, in primary care/internal medicine. She will work at two hospitals in the New Haven, Conn., area. Maloney plans to keep her Randolph home and hopes to return here, she said. A Bristol native, Maloney came to Randolph in 1996, as an AmeriCorps volunteer, working on housing issues with the Randolph Area Community Development Corp. RACDC then hired her its housing director, a position Maloney held until 2002, when she entered medical school. "It was definitely harder than I ever would have imagined," said Maloney of her medical studies. However, she credited UVM with being very supportive of her and other "non-traditional" medical school students. She noted that UVM "let me start again" when she encountered a problem that resulted in her putting her studies on hold. "I think no other school would have let me do that," she said. A long-time runner, Maloney managed to continue running 20-40 miles per week, during her five years at UVM. _____________ |
