3 Feet of Hair for Others

Somebody somewhere is going to end up with some beautiful blonde hair.

Nikia Helfant, 11, and Kylie, 9, came to The Herald last week shortly after donating a couple of feet of their hair to the Locks of Love organization.

It must be said that the two girls still have quite a lot of hair left, and it looked lovely, but both said their hair previously had been down to mid-thigh length—and had never been cut.

The locks were cut off at the Drop Dead Gorgeous hair salon on Railroad Street in Randolph. Proprietor Lisa Bent said this was the longest hair she had ever seen donated to the program, according to the girls’ mother, Carrie. The family lives in West Brookfield. The dad is State Police Sgt. John Helfant.

Nikia explained that the girls wanted "to donate it to people who need it more than we do.

"Some people have no hair, and we had three feet of it," she said.

Mom Carrie Helfant admitted she shed a few tears when the deed was done.
