CHELSEA—Joseph A. Anthony, Sr., 64, on of the two Orange County Assistant Judges, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at his home. He was born in Camden, N.J. the son of Alfred and Bessie Anthony. Judge Anthony began his career in law enforcement in Medford, N.J. and quickly rose through the ranks to become chief of police at age 31. Following that, he served as public safety director of Brick township, N.J. He was the chief of the Hampton Police Department in Hampton, N.J., and later served as the chief of the Chester Housing Authority, in Chester, Penna. He moved to Vermont in 2002, and held various law enforcement positions including chief of police of Thetford. In January of 2007, he was elected Orange County Assist-ant Judge. Concurrently, Judge Anthony provided counseling and mentoring services for the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont’s Brookhaven Home for Boys in Chelsea. Judge Anthony is survived by his beloved significant other, Tracy Lombardi, of Lebanon, N.H.; two sons, Marco Anthony of Deptford, N.J and Joseph A. Anthony, Jr. of Pennsauken, N.J.; and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, in Chelsea. Judge Anthony’s avocation was music.
