Two-Colonel Birthday In honor of Colonel Albert B. Chandler's 100th birthday and his friendship with Colonel Robert Kimball, the folks at Chandler have challenged the folks at Kimball Library to a friendly, and spirited softball game. Both Chandler and Kimball were given as gifts to the Town of Randolph at the turn of the century through the generosity of these visionary philanthropists, whose buildings bear their names. The festivities begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19 at the Little League field. What the teams lack in skill will be made up for with enthusiasm. And a special tip: The umpiring will be worth the price of admission (which is zero). Everyone in the community is invited to watch this spectacle and to enjoy a communal potluck picnic afterwards, complete with birthday cake. Chandler will provide hot dogs, lemonade, and the cake. This lighthearted contest kicks off Chandler's centennial year and celebrates the contributions of these two organizations to the community. "Bring all your friends and a side dish to share and come root for your favorite team!" urged Chandler board chair Janet Watton. |
