Barrett Williams, who was chosen recently to serve as interim principal in Chelsea for the upcoming year, says he hopes his experience with the school will be valuable in his new job. "I decided to apply on short notice. I felt being in the school and familiar with the system would be a great benefit for teachers and students," Williams said. Williams served as associate principal last year and as a physical education teacher for the three previous years. The interim principal position officially commenced August first, and will run through June 30 of next year. Williams was selected from a pool of more than 20 applicants, according to board member Chris Byrne. Williams replaces Karl Stein, who resigned in June and had been principal since 2002. Williams has been a lifelong Vermont resident. He grew up in Bradford and attended Oxbow High School. His first teaching job was in Tunbridge. Byrne said the school will put together a search for a permanent principal in January, with a candidate hopefully chosen by the end of March. Byrne said the process "will require a much larger committee and will involve more community members and school employees." Williams said it’s "a little early to say" whether he will apply for the permanent position. He said during this year he’d like to continue to work on a curriculum assessment project. |
