Glamorous Gym Will Be Expensive

I am writing to all Royalton residents to use caution before saying "yes" to the September 11 vote for a new $3.88 million gym and fitness center at South Royalton School.

Bethel, Barnard and Strafford have all had their reevaluation for their properties. All went up, and some doubled and some almost tripled in the amount of taxes that the property owners paid just last year.

So, before all the glamor of having a new gym and fitness center to attract students (that may not even come after the $3.88 million tax burden to all Royalton residents), remember, your taxes are probably going to double, or worse, by next year. (You could call the listers and ask when we are going to be reevaluated to be sure!)

And then the gym taxes are added to them. Please think financially ahead. Will you be able to afford to live in Royalton anyhow?
